    Swiss X-treme Itinerary:
(This itinierary might vary depending on prevailing conditions)
Day 1 Interlaken If there is one place that is a “must do” in Switzerland, it is Interlaken. In fact, with so many people being whisked through on a rapid lakes-and-mountains tour, they can be forgiven for thinking that Switzerland is home to lakes, mountains and kitsch souvenir shops… Maybe they are right, however, with Madmarmot, we know where all the “off the beaten track” souvenir shops can be found. Interlaken is perfectly positioned as the gateway into the Oberland, linked into main train routes to and from Bern and Zürich. The town is situated on the Bödeli, a small alluvial neck of land between the Thunersee and Brienzersee. It’s one of the oldest resorts in the country, famed for its superb views towards the Jungfrau massif, which lies perfectly framed between two hills to the south of town. And that’s pretty much the whole story – history, character and tradition take a back seat to the necessities of providing for the hundreds of thousands of trippers who pass through on their way to more dramatic backdrops. One thing you can’t fail to notice is that many of the shops which cram the centre of town have prominent signs in Japanese – of Interlaken’s tourists, fully a quarter are from Japan, as many as from around Switzerland
Day 2 Grimsel Pass At the head of the Rhone valley, there are three passes from the Valais to neighboring cantons:
The Nufenen pass into the Tessin, with its famous fog.
The Furka pass where you can Uri-nate into the Mediterranean and the North sea in the same go!
The Grimsel pass into Bern, where the smooth granite domes and concrete hydroelectric plants leave you thinking you should have on a NASA space suite. For this moonscape alone, it is worth visiting Grimsel.

Day 3 Niouc For those who don’t know, Niouc is a little hamlet that you drive through on your way up the Val d’Anniviers. However, there is one outstanding feature not so well hidden in this Gorge just above Sierre: “Le Pont suspendu de l'Araignée”... a must do for all those looking for a rush!
Day 4 Portes du Soleil The Portes du Soleil is a region stretching between Haute-Savoie in France and the Valais in Switzerland. The largest town in the area is Morzine. Other notable villages are Les Gets (F) Avoriaz (F), Montriond (F), St Jean d'Aulps (F), Abondance (F), Châtel (F) Champéry (Sui), Morgins (Sui) and Val d'Illiez-Les Crosets Champoussin (Sui). Each of the Villages have their unique character: While Champéry has retained it’s small “chalet style” village atmosphere, purpose built Avoriaz caters for the many thousands of skiers that pass through each day of the winter season with surprising efficiency. This is one of the favorite destinations for MadMarmot due to the extensive mountain biking area in Summer.
Day 5 Chateau d'Oex Château-d'Oex is first and foremost a mecca for hot-air ballooning. Its' exceptional microclimate creates such ideal flight conditions that people flock to this part of Switzerland from all over the world.
However, there is a lot more in the region than hot air. Renowned for their hospitality, the inhabitants of the “pays d’En Haut” ("Up there Country") nevertheless proudly hold on to their traditional ways. The alpine meadows with their traditional cows provide a fitting backdrop to the beautifully decorated chalets.
For the modern traveler, Chateau d’Oex is a place to try a bit of everything. It is a prime destination for all those who want to slow down through intense activity. With the well known rafting, parachuting or ballooning, there are also many new activities: The ant trail, a 3.5 kilometer long exhibition and nature trail enabling a fascinating new world to be discovered, to rafting or. For keen hikers and walkers, the Via Ferrata between La Videmanette and Rougemont a delightfully welcoming village not far from Château-d'Oex, is now open, giving panoramic vistas of outstanding beauty.
